Field Trip Available

Thank you for considering Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site for your field trip. We can provide an interpretive program for any group ages first grade to adult from mid-April to mid-October.

The normal group tour takes about 1 to 2 hours with about 30 minutes spent in the museum, around the village area, and at the fort, respectively. In the museum a brief historical introduction is given, followed by a hands-on activity concerning artifacts. Around the village we conduct a question and answer discussion of the archaeological digs and early colonial life. At the fort a brief summary of military activities is given followed by time to explore in and around the fort. Both the content and the time of the tour can be modified somewhat to meet the needs of the group. Picnic facilities are available if you would like to have lunch here.

If you would like to schedule a site visit and tour, please contact the site by calling (207) 677-2423 or by mail at

Library

A small but growing collection of materials relating to the history, archaeology and geology of Colonial Pemaquid is available for study in the Fort House library. During the summer season (Memorial Day through Labor Day), the library is open daily from 10 to 4.

Teachers Guide

The Maine Department of Conservation (Bureau of Parks and Lands) offers a Teacher's Guide for grades 3 and 4 on the Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site. The guide provides a time line and breaks down aspects of colonial life in a chapter format. It includes an in depth historical background of the three forts that stood on the grounds as well as information on the settlers who colonized the Pemaquid area. The guide offers activities for students including crossword puzzles, mazes, and many other activities relating to the site. Further resources on the site are also provided to teachers in the guide.

The guide meets Maine Learning Results and National Teaching Standards. A guide for grades K-2 will be available shortly. If you are interested in using the guide in your classroom or would like more information, please contact the site by calling (207) 677-2423 or by mail at:
